How to Earn from YouTube Shorts with 0 Subscribers (2026 Guide)

· · 2 min read

Ad revenue on YouTube Shorts starts only after a channel joins the YouTube Partner Program, which has subscriber and view thresholds that a new channel can take months to reach. Product recommendations work differently: if a viewer buys something you showed, the store can pay a commission no matter how many subscribers you have. This guide covers how to set that up from your first Short.

Ad revenue and affiliate income are separate

The YouTube Partner Program shares ad revenue and unlocks features such as YouTube Shopping, and its eligibility rules change from time to time, so check YouTube's current requirements. Affiliate income does not depend on any of that. A store pays a commission when someone buys through your tracked link, so a channel with zero subscribers can earn from its first useful recommendation. The two can run side by side: affiliate links now, ad revenue later if you qualify.

Put the link where Shorts viewers can tap it

At the time of writing, links typed into Shorts descriptions and comments are not clickable, so the link that works is the one on your channel profile. Add your Tapixy storefront link to the links section of your channel, then say in the video where to find the products, for example: ‘every item is on the link in my channel.’ Pin a comment repeating that line for viewers who skip the audio.

Build one look per Short

On Tapixy, paste the Short's share link and Tapixy creates a look for that video. Tag up to five products you actually show, with clear titles such as ‘matte black travel mug, 16 oz’ rather than ‘mug.’ You can paste a link from any of Tapixy's partner stores, or use the editor's Find on button to open the store you chose and pick an item; the name, photo, and price fill in where the store provides them. Shoppers then see the video beside the exact items in it.

Choose Shorts that show products doing something

Demonstrations convert better than mentions. A Short that packs a carry-on, compares two desk lamps, or styles one jacket three ways gives viewers a reason to tap through. Keep the product visible in the first seconds, name it out loud, and show the result. Recommend things you have used, and leave out items you would not buy yourself.

Measure and repeat

Your Tapixy studio shows clicks by look and product as they happen, and sales once the store's network reports them. Creators keep 70% of each commission, which shows as pending during a 90-day verification period before it becomes available. Compare which Shorts earn clicks, make more of those formats, and disclose affiliate links in the video and next to the links every time.

Quick checklist

  • Add your storefront link to your YouTube channel profile.
  • Create one Tapixy look per Short with the items you show.
  • Say where the link is, in the video and in a pinned comment.
  • Disclose that the links are affiliate links.
